    Who should attend?

    Anyone whose job involves dealing with people who may be aggressive and/or violent and those staff who support 'front-line' workers.

     

     
     

    What you will get from this course

     

    Knowledge of the origins of aggressive behaviour.
    Alertness to signals indicating the possibility of violence.
     
    Increased awareness of potential weapons and dangerous environments.
     
    Ways of interviewing in potentially aggressive situations to avoid violence.
     
    Practise in a variety of breakaway techniques at introductory level.
     
    Knowledge of the relevant legal framework.
     
    Good management practice in preventing violence and supporting employees who face
     
    aggression.

     

     
     
    Before coming on the course you should have:


    Read your organisation's "Violence at Work - Staff at Risk" Policy.
     
    Discussed with your Supervising Officer the safety guidelines to be followed, including
     
    the help available and how to summon it.

    NB Since the course contains a practical element, held under safe and controlled conditions,
     
    participants are advised to wear trousers and comfortable shoes with flat heels.

     

     
     

    Course focus:
     


    This one-day course explores the causes of aggression and violence, to help prevent

     

    incidents of this nature.

     

    Or if they do occur, to give staff the skills and confidence to deal with them effectively.

     

    During the day, participants will identify risks in their own working environments and

     

    discuss safe working practices and support systems

     

    Causes of violence and aggression
     

    Identifying and assessing risks
     

    Attitudes and non-verbal communication
     

    Responses to confrontation
     

    Use of breakaway skills
     

    Greater personal safety
     

    Legal implications

     

    Post-incident management

     
     
     
    All course participants will receive a bound set of course notes and a certificate of attendance and you, the employer, will receive a report of all issues covered and recommendation for any changes.
